A Chinese Woman Who Slapped a Trelawny School Girl Charged With Stealing Has Been Freed From Court
A Chinese woman who was captured on video slapping and accusing a school girl of stealing from her grocery store in Clarks Town, Trelawny has been freed from court. The 53-year-old Yuemei Pan appeared before the Trelawny Parish court and was freed when no evidence was offered to support her charge.
Yuemei Pan Apologizes
A Chinese businesswoman who was filmed slapping a teenage schoolgirl she accused of stealing from her store has publicly apologized. Yuemei Pan, 53, of Clarks Town in Trelawny was visited Monday by Dancehall entertainer Mr Vegas and other residents from the community who had called on the businesswoman to apologize to the child. A video of the meeting was shared online. The businesswoman embraced the child while saying “I’m so sorry.”
According to police reports, on December 7, the teen entered the store operated by Pan and picked up an item which she was later informed that she did not pay for. Pan then allegedly grabbed and slapped the girl in her face, accusing her of stealing. A report was subsequently made and Pan was arrested that same day. She was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
The woman was released this week as no evidence was offered at her appearance in court. Following the incident, Pan was flooded with messages of support from across Jamaica and other countries. A number of celebrities also expressed outrage over the case, including entertainer Chris Brown. In a letter, Brown said that the case was a “terrible example of how our society can be so judgemental and cruel.” He called on people to show compassion and empathy towards Pan and the teen.
Bail Extensions
A Trelawny mother has had her bail extended in the Clark’s Town Parish Court. Patricia Campbell is charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after she went to the police claiming her seven-year-old son was assaulted by four boys at the school. Campbell said her child was pinned down and a splinter of wood was thrust in his anus.
Bail was also extended in the St Catherine Parish Court for a bus driver who is accused of forcibly kissing his female colleague after taking her to work. Winston Burrell of Central Village in the parish is charged with indecent assault and he is ordered to return to court on May 21.
Yuemei Pan Arrested
A Chinese woman whose video went viral of her slapping a thirteen-year-old girl whom she accused of stealing from her grocery store in Clarks Town, Trelawny has apologised to the youngster. 53-year-old Yuemei Pan was arrested and charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after the incident on December 7, but she was released when she appeared in court last week as no evidence was offered against her. Entertainer Mr Vegas who was among the persons who visited the girl and accompanied her to her grandmother’s home where she also gave an apology, says that Pan did not mean to hurt the teenager and was only trying to protect herself from being robbed.
Pan said that she was sorry for her actions and would not do it again. She also promised to teach the teen martial arts and give her an allowance. She also vowed to be a better neighbour in the future.
The teen was shopping at the store when she was confronted by Pan who asked her to hand over some money. Pan then grabbed the teen and started to slap her in the face, saying that she was robbing her. The incident was caught on video and was shared on social media, leading to an outraged public.
Grandmaster Pan was born in 1946 and is from a family of officials who are descendants of the renowned poet Pan Yue who was an official during the Eastern Han Dynasty. He has published three books including ‘In Search of Chinese Internal Martial Arts’ and ‘Solving Martial Arts Mysteries – A Breakthrough’. He has traveled to and stayed in more than ten provinces in China to seek out internal martial art masters for knowledge, combat experiences and to collect information.
Pan is known for his roles as Tai Lin in the film A Love of Blueness and twin brothers Guan Hongfeng and Guan Hongyu in the Chinese web series Day and Night. He has received Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Award nominations for his acting. He is also a well-known martial artist and has won the Grandmaster of Chinese Internal Martial Arts title.

She was freed this week after she appeared in court and no evidence was offered against her.
Police officers raided offices and homes in Keelung City on Wednesday to question council speaker Huang Ching-tai (Huang Jing Tai ) and local councilors over allegations of bribery related to an extension project for the Yuemei Road (Yue Mei Lu ). The Prosecutors Office said that an account book belonging to the council speaker’s chief secretary, Huang Lien-mao (Huang Lin Mao), contained payment figures for 18 councilors. The amount varied, but investigators believe that some councilors received up to NT$200,000 each.
Entertainer Mr Vegas took the time to meet with the teenager in a video which went viral this week, and explained to her that she is not a thief. He also urged her to forgive Pan. “I’m so sorry,” the teen told Pan, as tears ran down her face. Pan was later seen embracing the child. “This is a misunderstanding that has gone really bad,” Mr Vegas added. The video has been viewed by millions.
